A Simple Dishrag Set

Hey, everyone! I'm still working on trying to transfer all my followers (over 300 of you!) from my old blog to here. If you stumble by, please follow if you'd like to stay with me! I let blogging go for a while, and am now determined to get back to it. You all know I'm slightly addicted to paper, stamps and ink. I still am. I've added crochet to my list of 'hobbies I can't live without'. I wanted to share this one with you! so far I've made 2, but I plan to make 4, which is how many I should yield from 2 skeins of yarn. I love the twisted yard edging!

A lady in our church gave my Mom a beautiful dishcloth she had crocheted for Christmas. Ever since I've been dying to make one similar. Unfortunately, she's a master at crochet and apparently just 'knows' patterns in her head. Since I have none of those abilities, I set out to find a pattern that was close, and this one is perfect! Here's the link to the pattern. I am constantly amazed by crafters willing to share their knowledge. This dishrag set is really beautiful. My 8 yr old daughter insisted I could not really use it. Oh, but I will!

I had so much fun on this. I made 2 very quickly, and I am a beginner. I also want to make dishtowels to match! I hope you like them as much as I do! I'll be sharing many more crochet projects very soon! I am glad I decided to blog again. I've missed it, and creating is not as much fun if you don't share it!

Polka Dot Table - Trash to Treasure

This ugly, cheap decorator table sitting in Goodwill had my name all over it. A friend of mine had just painted one for her daughter and I figured I would give it a try. I LOVE this little table now. I picked it up for $3. It was, well, plain and cheap. Perfect! My youngest daughter was needing a small bedside table and I didn't want to spend too much. This fit the bill!


First thing we did was go shopping for paint. Tara picked out a beautiful purple Krylon spray paint cutely named, Bubble Gum. My friend had successfully used spray paint. I figured I would, too.

I unscrewed the legs (glorified broom handles, cheapest wood ever. They weren't in perfect shape, and long story short, the spray paint didn't do it for me. Now, I like spray paint, but I've never cared for using it on wood. I prefer a good latex paint and a Purdy brush. Now I did not feel like going back to the store, so I dug around in the garage and found this gorgeous yellow paint. But...it was 8 years old. I painted my oldest girls nursery with it. Gave it a shake and stir...it's still good! I went in to ask Tara if it would be OK yellow. She said 'YES! Yellow reminds me of sunshine...and Sissy". Her big sisters fave color is yellow. Pure sweetness. So, we moved on to this...

This table took 4 coats of paint. The top soaked it up and the legs...well...the paint needs to look nice since there's not much else going for them;) I even painted the underside of the top. Tara will see it if noone else does when she plays on the floor in her room. So a day of painting, drying and a fan on it, and we had this...

I had already decided not to put the glass back on it. It's not tempered, and it's not safe for a child's room. Now it looks B.O.R.I.N.G. Really boring. I can't do the die cut butterflies I had planned without using the glass to cover it. Then I got to thinking about my stash of acrylic paints, that looked like this...

What to paint? I'm no artist. Polka Dots. They're fun, cute and always trendy. I considered punching out some stencils, then just decided to free hand them. Glad I did, I like them being slightly imperfect. I love the way this turned out. A $3.00 table. Can't beat it!

Stars & Stripes...The Wreath

I, like most of us crafters, have fallen prey to an endless To-Do or To-Make list...thank you Pinterest! Recently, I pinned a cute July 4th wreath that I loved and since she said her 5 yr old could have made it, well...that means it's easy. And...I do a lot of crafting. However, I am not a wreath creator;) Alas...I may now be slightly addicted to creating my own front door decor! Here's a finished picture of my wreath.

Now, I am completely aware I need to paint my front door. I have to wait for these 100+ degree days to pass first! So, here it is. In all her Red, White, and Blue glory. I really like it. I made some changes from the one I took inspiration from...here's hers. And here's her BLOG to read about it.

There are some things about hers I like better. The wreath is fatter, for one. Mine's skinny and I bet if one side was straight...would more closely favor a candy cane. That's fine with me. But, I am on the lookout for a more full-bodied wreath for future projects. I also like how many more buttons (stars) she used. But, on mine...it didn't look good. Again, I think this is because my wreath could really stand a Big Mac. Also, I didn't make it to a big craft store for supplies, so they had NO navy yarn, so my blue section has a different texture, which again, I ended up loving. In reading her post, she mentioned wanting more stripes. That was a big deal for me, too. So, mine has 13 stripes, just like Old Glory, 7 red, 6 white. In the end, I am really, really delighted with my finished wreath. It looks nice on my door, where a large American flag waves gently in the breeze just a pillar away.

If you just wanted to see how my wreath turned out...well, this is the end of the line, unless of course you want to scroll down for the full door picture. Want to make one of these? Well then, keep on reading. I've got pictures for the steps, and a couple tips for you. For those heading on out, thanks for stopping by!

Supplies needed: Glue Gun, Glue Stick, Foam Wreath form (mine was 14"),  Red/White/Blue yarn,
White Buttons. And...a big dose of patience, along with some time. Obviously, I didn't have blue yarn. I bought 2 yds of Grosgrain ribbon instead. I LOVE it, would not change that. But...while I thought 2 yds would be overkill...I wish I'd sprung the extra .31 for another yard to wrap it more closely.

The thing about Styrofoam is that it doesn't hold up great to high heat, so plug in that glue gun and slap that sucker on the LOW heat setting. This will also make those inevitable burns more tolerable;) I knew I wanted 13 stripes, between 2-3 inches wide. So...do some math and make some marks before you start. Take your time, I had to keep reworking the numbers as you'll see. My blue was supposed to be 7" wide...I didn't have enough ribbon, so it ended up being a little smaller than that. It's ok, but map it all out first. Using the glue gun, place a dot on the center of the wreath and start wrapping the blue. Make sure you end it on the same side of the wreath you started it! This entire project, all ends on one side so the front is seamless!!! A dot of hot glue will secure the end of the ribbon in place. It will look like this.

This is just a shot showing my many markings for the stripes.

Once you've secured the blue section, pick up your red yarn. Press the end into a dot of hot glue, and start wrapping. Wrap tightly and push the yarn together as you go so your white wreath form doesn't show through. That wouldn't look so hot. When you have your red stripe as wide as you want it, glue it off on the backside of the wreath. Apply another dot of glue and start the white stripe.

***Time for a little tip. It is very, very aggravating to pull the ball of yarn in and out so many times. Go ahead and cut a VERY long length of the yarn for each stripe so you have less to hold onto. A couple times, I didn't cut enough. That's OK! Simply tie more onto the yarn you are wrapping, making sure to keep the knot on the backside of the wreath. A dot of glue under those knots is helpful as well.***

This wrapping and changing colors continues until you're back at the blue section.

Almost done with the stripes! See the markings? Only I can decipher them, but they helped!

Here's the wreath, all wrapped up. 

Once you've got all the stripes down, you're ready to hot glue your buttons to the blue! Star shaped buttons would have been PERFECT, but as I said...I had limited options. Next time...big craft store! I hot glued a loop of red yarn onto the bag as a hanger. Here it is on my front door. The front door really needing paint. Also those old fireboxes Jim and I sanded and repainted will soon hold plants, not shoes;)

I'm so glad I took this from a 'Pin' to reality. It was such a fun project, and I can't wait to make more wreaths! Also on my agenda...making the foam wreath forms out of pool noodles. I already have the noodle, from Dollar Tree. I'll post if it works! It would be fatter, too. Bonus!

Kitchen Drawer Dividers...

If there is one room in the house where the issue of storage makes me crazy, it is the kitchen! Like most homes, we have one really big drawer...seemed awesome until you realize the back 6 inches is almost inaccessible. After....say almost 10 years of living here I was fed up. I saw a pin on Pinterest (whew...love that place), and got to work. First...I emptied the drawer and found a new home (my Mom) for the nice divider that was in there. Wish I had taken pics of the whole process...I did this a few months ago. I went to Lowes and bought a few pieces of trim wood...CHEAP...in two widths...only used one size on the big drawer.

We had a few things that came out of the second drawer and needed to be in this one, so I laid the biggest things out where I wanted them and measured and cut the wood as I went...nothing is secured yet! We kept moving pieces until I liked the set up. I LOVE that both the big rolling pin and grilling tools now fit in here! Once everything was ready, we used Gorilla Wood Glue on the bottom and sides of each piece and stuck them back in. Once that set up (it was fast!), we turned it over and drilled screws into the two longest pieces for stability.

So, here it is finished. See how much more usable the back of the drawer is now? I LOVE it! I do wish I had taken the time to paint the wood white first....Lesson learned.

Well, that turned out great. But...the small drawer we stuffed with grilling tools, etc is now empty and my silverware needs a home. We used wood trim that was half the width for this one....we tried the regular size...it was hard to get your hands in and out. We did it the same way. I have to say, this works better than any divider I have ever tried!

With my husbands help, we finished both drawers one evening after putting the kiddos to bed. It's much more organized now! A few months later...I still open the big drawer to get a fork...10 years of them being there takes time to get over, I suppose. 

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I made a difference in my kitchen! I have a couple more kitchen ideas to share as well. And many more projects to get started on!

Accountability...I need some!

This blog may be new...my procrastination dates way back. I have good intentions. Heck, a lot of people wouldn't believe I have a massive list of things to get to, or that a few of those things have been on the list longer than I would like to admit. I won't post my entire list...Bloggers server may not hold it;) I will however share with you a few of the things I really want to get to soon. By making these public, I am to a big degree...more accountable to make time to finally get them done. So..without further ado...and in no particular order of importance...the List.

Master Bedroom:
Frame Decorative papers I bought 2 years ago...whew...hurts to even admit that:(

Master Bathroom:
Paint --- also painting needs to be updated in many rooms...will not list that. Bathroom has never been painted and is contractor off-white...blah!
Frame or replace the HUGE mirror.
Replace recessed light with pendant lamp.

Hall:
Frame kids pictures...gallery style.

Dining Room:
Decide on window treatment.
Add some sort of kids art showcase.

Kitchen:
WAY too much to mention...
Refinish this kitchen table that I got at the Flea Market for $25. Finish chairs too!

Outside:
Do some work updating the garage door.

I have an antique mini secretary type desk I want to start on immediately.
I have an old oval framed mirror I picked up at the Flea Market last year with an ornate frame...need to transform this too!

So, there. The short version of a ton of projects to be done. Luckily in my mind, most of them are complete. Now, it's just the DOING. I'll hope you'll tag along and see how I do;)

Hi, everyone. I haven't been here in ages:( I know many of my crafty friends still follow me on their feed. I have started a new blog. I actually just published it today. It will still include some of my papercrafting. However...it will be more well-rounded, including many of my other interests. DIY, and home organization ideas and tutorials as well as furniture re-purposing! I will also be sharing and reviewing homemade cleaners. The recipes I already use with amazing success will be loaded this week! I hope you'll jump over there and follow me!

THE NEW BLOG

First things first...

Hello! I have many projects on my To Do List, and while I am at it, I thought a blog would be a good way to share them as I go. I may feed my old stamping blog here since I will still include papercrafting projects here. Baby steps;) I hope you'll follow along on my journeys, celebrate in the successes, and learn from the failures! I have furniture to refinish/repurpose in the coming weeks. I will be sharing homemade cleaning recipes/reviews and ideas. Kids crafts/gifts/outings will also be thrown in for good measure...especially this summer as we all look to keep them busy;) About the only thing you won't find here is much about plants....I kill them all. Never intentionally. Still...they die. I try...maybe I will get better. Right now we're growing two tomato and two watermelon plants...well, the kids are. They're alive...for now. So, I will see you around my little slice of heaven...minus the picket fence!

2011 Christmas Cards

 Hello Friends! It's once again been a while since I have posted. I haven't been crafting as much lately and am really trying to get back to it. So, I made myself make my Christmas cards again this year, though I had almost talked myself out of it. 10 minutes into the process I was so glad I decided to do it! I am not me without creating! It felt great, I am definitely moving things around in my time to fit crafting back in!


This year I cut back the number of cards I mailed. I waited a little late to start...they just mailed this past week! To keep them simple, I designed a very clean and uncluttered layout. The base of this card is my  beloved Cherry Cobbler. I embossed the Baja Breeze layer with the Northern Flurry folder from SU! It looks so elegant, and took just seconds. A short piece of Cherry Cobbler ribbon wrapped around that layer added just enough decoration. 

          I used the New Silver Glitter paper and the Scallop Border punch to line the side of the card. Dasher is stamped in Crumb Cake, the edges of that piece sponged. Added Clear Rhinestones to his antlers, and it's done. The inside is decorated pretty much the same. The Silver Glitter paper on the top is the piece leftover after running it through the punch for the front scallop piece...I was about to throw them away when this hit me! The Baja Breeze swirls on the inside sentiment are the antlers of the deer (Dasher) stamp being used in a different way. 

So, I am back. It feels great! I can't wait to post more! I am working on Teacher Gifts this weekend, so I will get those posted when they are done!

The Theme is Summer Picnic...

Hey, friends! I am playing with a new swap group on Yahoo called JustCards. I love it! The theme for one of the swaps last month was Summer Picnic. I do not know why, but this theme freaked me out. I stressed  about it for days. I don't have many summery sets, and certainly nothing that screams 'picnic'. After wrestling with the idea of weaving red and white ribbon to create a blanket and punching out a sun and ants...Ding...lightbulb! I remembered this old SU set called Ladybug Picnic. I hadn't used it in years, it is a set my kids use in their crafts. Well, I pulled it right out and this card was made in minutes! It's clean and simple, but it works. The grass is Old Olive DSP cut along the top and roughed up a bit. The sky is done on a small layer instead of the background and I love the simpicity that lends to this design. I went down the side with a few matching buttons. The ants are stamped in Jet Black Staz-On and colored with SU Markers. It was fun...I don't know why I was so stressed! Hope ya'll like it!

It's been a while...I am still alive;)

 Sorry friends! I have been crafting a lot less lately, but my poor blog has been completely neglected. I am trying to get back on track. I recently started a new business, so I had to put some of my stamping aside for a couple months. This card was a fun one to make! It was a sketch for a swap group I play in. If you like making and swapping cards, you should really check out JustCards on yahoo! It's a great group! I cut out the three circles, did the faux suede technique, then balled them up and smoothed them back out. They're layered to created a fun, textured flower. The white background is speckled with blue ink using the Color Spritzer tool from SU! A little tear in one corner, and she's done! I have many more projects to blog, so I hope you guys haven't given up on me;) Supplies are all SU!

It's a HeAtWaVe!

 Whew ya'll. It's hot in NC this week! Temps in the 90's with horrible humidity! This month's theme for a month long swap I play in is 'SUMMER', so every Monday, I mail a summer themed card to my assigned partner for the month. Here are two that I have sent to her! The first card was SO MUCH FUN! Nothing but punches used to create this fun flamingo! I saw a card VERY similar on a demo site, and tweaked it a little, and it's one of my favorites! The flamingo is made completely out of the 2-Step Bird Punch! It's all in the details....the sand is sprayed, everything is sponged, the water is crimped, the birds are doodled. It took a while, but it was worth it! I will be making a couple more! These would be fun summer birthday cards!

This one is a whole lot more simple. It uses Awash with Flowers stamp set, and the sentiment is printed using My Digital Studio from SU, which amazingly...my new printer produces the exact SU colors! Bonus!!!!

A couple recent Masculine Swaps....

 I have been a little absent from my blogging lately and I apologize! But...I HAVE been stamping away! These are two masculine cards that I made for a month long swap last month. I sent 4, but really liked these two! The top card uses my all-time favorite, and go-to masculine set...Lovely As A Tree. This card features the thumping technique and I love how it looks like a tree in Fall! A bit (well...a LOT) of twine finish this card off!

This card was made using River Rock DSP, stamped with VersaMark, clear heat embossed, then heavily sponged for the scene. You only vaguely see the striped detailing in the background. Effective for adding depth with my usual massive amounts of layers;) I left it sentiment-free, as it's a great all-occasion 'man card' and I thought she could add one later.

Gettin' Sketchy with it...

 I have been making this size card for a while now, and it's probably my favorite size! They are perfect to hold money, gift certificates and notes folded up inside. It measures 4"x8" and has a 2" pocket inside. I start with an 8" x 10" sheet of cardstock and score the long side at 2" and 6". This gives you three sections, and the short one gets glued in the corners to make the pocket. So easy! I used Early Edition DSP by SU as the background paper on this card. I LOVE this paper! This particular sheet happens to be an encyclopedia type page all about Cherry Blossoms, facts and info about them, what they represent, where they grow, etc. It was so fitting for the image! The black 1/2 pearls in the bottom right corner are SU Basic Pearls colored a few times with a Black Sharpie. I never need more than one coat for other colors, but black is really purple, so it takes a few times to get it dark. I LOVE coloring on both the Pearls and the Rhinestones! The shape in the left is a Labels Die from Nestabilities. It's cut, then embossing and sponged in the center, leaving the outside ridge uninked. Love it!

 Here's a shot of the inside. I added a pull out message card inside the pocket and stamped the corners to match. Another strip of DSP finishes off the inside. This worn look is just small tears in the paper (and roughing up all edges), and folding them a little, then sponging them heavily with River Rock ink.

This is the sketch I designed for a fun group I swap with. I design these monthly for the group, and still enjoy it very much. I thought for a while that blog design would be my new addiction, but nope, it's sketches! I do all my sketches exclusively in My Digital Studio.

A fancy little flourish card...

This weekend I have really been getting caught up on the crafting 'To Do List'. This is one of the cards I made last night. It's for a special friend, and I mail it tomorrow, so I hope she doesn't see this before then;) We have had a lot going on in my little family lately, and I haven't been taking any time for myself. It feels really nice to devote some time to doing what I love...stamping and sharing it with all of you! Here's a little about this card.

The base is Certainly Celery. I haven't used this color in a while, and I forgot how much I like it! When it's paired with other colors, it tends to get 'lost' since it is so subtle. However, on its' own against neutrals...it's beautiful! I'll definitely be reaching for it more often! The background is Whisper White run through the Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper Textures Embossing Folder, then brayed over the raised portions with Early Expresso ink. The Certainly Celery ribbon goes around that and over the smaller Certainly Celery layer. And that beautiful flourish stamp is called 'Fine Flourish' and I got it FREE by spending so much during SAB this year....shhhhh! I had never really noticed it before. Now that I have it...WOW! It's inexpensive and it's gorgeous! The green stone in the center is one of our Basic Rhinestones colored with a green Sharpie before putting it on the card. That's it...Voila!

I just love when such a simple card comes together like this! I hope the special friend I made it for will love it!

BuStEd!!!

I have been called out by a great friend for letting my blog get so far behind....OUCH! She was RIGHT! So...you aren't getting my usual picture quality and I haven't had time to edit the pics or watermark them...but here they are!!! I really HAVE been stamping...just not updating my poor blog regularly...LOL! Below is a card I designed for my club last month. The tulip is made with the Owl Punch, and some ovals. Isn't it great?

 And here's a really simple one I threw together for a swap! Super quick!

 Here's another swappie! I used the Inlaid Embossing technique for the striped background. The lantern is made by running a circle through the crimper...you know the tool collecting dust that you haven't thought about it eons! Pull it out! These lanterns are so much fun!

So...(ahem...KELLI) I have been stamping;) I am REALLY behind on my online life, but for once my real life is just about in order. LOL! I will be back regularly....promise (the pinky kind).

Flowers For You...

Here's a card I designed and my club made this past weekend. It's a fun card to make! AND, it only takes ONE stamp, which is FREE when you earn it through SAB! I usually stay away from such bright layers, but hey, it's warming up a little and I am willing Spring to move in! In the end, I loved the simple, bright color combo. I paired Pumpkin Pie with Daffodil Delight, and Whisper White. The white layer is run through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Impressions Folder. The large yellow scallop is cut with Scallop Circles #2. I cut this big, beautiful flower out of the Greenhouse Gala DSP, and loved the effect! The scallop in the top corner is one stamp, stamped once in Pumpkin Pie, and punched with the Scallop Circle. Then, I inked the same stamp in Daffodil Delight, used a Blender Pen to remove the ink from the flower center and stem, and used markers to add color to those areas. I then punched the center portion out with the 1 3/8" circle Punch, and popped it up over the scallop with a Dimensional. It's finished off by setting three Pumpkin Pie brads in the bottom corner using the Mat Pack. I hope you all like it! I LOVE when DSP has more uses, big bold designs (like this flower) are amazing cut out and used as focal points! NEVER be afraid to hack your paper up...great things sometimes happen;)

***Note::: The FOR YOU on the small scallop was done on my next card and club cards in Pumpkin Pie. We removed the Daffodil Delight ink with a blender pen and colored the words with a Pumpkin Pie marker. It made it stand out SO much more, and made the card look amazing. I didn't have one of those on hand to use in the picture.

A Blast-y Sketch!

 Here's a card I made for a sketch challenge. It's for a swap group, and I do the sketch designs for the group. When I designed the sketch, I had a flowery card in mind. Needless to say, when I sat down with the sketch, I ended up with something completely different! I really like this fun, bright card! It would make a GREAT birthday card for a little boy (or a grown-up boy;). I hope you guys like it, too. All supplies are SU (except the ribbon, no clue who makes it). I will do a supply list at the end of the post. Below is the sketch, and I would love to have you use it!

Love Bug Valentine!

Here's the card I made for my hubby for V-Day!!! I LOVE it! I saw a card in a gallery with a VW Bug made with punches and added to it. I created the landscape with a retired pack of DSP from last years SAB. I have tons of it left and am really trying to use it up. I wish the picture really showed the hood of the car better, but I waited until nighttime to shoot it. There's a lot of little details added to this card, and it was SO much fun. I LOVE Punch Art and do it all the time, but this was the most fun I have had with punches in a while!

As a teen, I was addicted to VW Beetles. I bought my first one with my own money when I was 15. My Dad and I worked on it together. When I graduated from High School in 99, my Dad surprised me by driving up to my cookout/party in the most beautiful shiny white 72' bug!!! Fully restored to be exact as it was new, perfect condition and ran like a dream. There's no more uncomfortable car in the summer, so we installed a fan in the floor and I loved this car for years! I just recently sold it, *sigh*. I haven't driven it since I had kids, so it sat for 6 years. I miss her very much. My hubby (whom I didn't know till I was 18) grew up driving bugs, too. So, I thought this card would be perfect!

Zig Zag Birthday!

Dear Friends,
Please forgive me for my tardiness in posting! My blog has been so neglected! I hope you're still visiting! Things have been a little hectic lately, I just noticed I didn't even take the time to watermark this picture. I will work at returning to my regularly blogging self ASAP!

Here's a super simple card I made for my hubby for his birthday last month. The blues aren't quite right in the pic since I am taking this inside at night, but you get the point, it makes IRL! If you look closely at the background paper, you will see it doesn't perfectly line up. I cut it into tiny strips and layered it on Whisper White cardstock, slightly overlapping each piece. I love how it slightly breaks up the design and adds tons of dimension to the card! It reminds me a little of siding on a house, but more busy...LOL! The # and 1 were created in MDS and printed, cut out, and popped up on dimensionals. The only other embellishment are the 3 black brads up the left side, which were placed using the Mat Pack. Easy Peasy!

I ♥ YOU Valentine!

Here is a No-Stamping Valentine's card I made for a swap consisting of super talented SU Demos! It's not often that I create a card without ever inking a stamp, so this is kind of a big deal;) The clouds, balloon and sentiment are rub-ons called Love Impressions. They are AWESOME! The DSP is the Whisper White pattern (with light gray words) from the Neutrals DSP Stack. All around the DSP, curving with the pink circle, I used a Mat Pack and Paper Piercer to pierce the edges. I work quicker without the guide, so I pierce free hand, using a ruler to keep me in line, but not for spacing. This only took a few seconds. If you're scared of a mistake, I suggest the Guide that comes with the Mat Pack. I use it for brad placement, and when I need a strip of exactly spaced pierces. I lived on the edge for this one;)
